Master of Arts in Teaching in Social Science Education
USF’s Master of Arts in Teaching in Social Science Education is a hybrid certification program designed for individuals who hold a non-education bachelor’s degree and want to become certified social studies teachers. This 30-credit hour program blends coursework in history, civics, geography, economics, and related fields with research-based teaching methods and extensive field experiences. Graduates earn both a master’s degree and Florida teacher certification in Social Science Education (grades 6–12).

What to expect
The MAT in Social Science Education is a 30-credit hour hybrid program with flexible course options—including evening, Saturday morning, synchronous, and asynchronous classes. ºÚÁÏÉç complete progressive field placements, an immersive practicum, and a full-time internship in middle and high school settings. The program culminates in the capstone course SSE 6636: Trends in Social Science Education, which includes a comprehensive exam. Throughout the program, students learn from highly active faculty engaged in research, grant work, and community partnerships.
