Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary English Education

USF’s Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary English Education is designed for individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree outside of education and want to earn teacher certification. This 33-credit hour program prepares students to teach English Language Arts in grades 6–12 while completing a master’s degree. It is ideal for graduates with strong backgrounds in English, literature, writing, or related coursework.

What you will learn

ºÚÁÏÉç build a foundation in adolescent development, curriculum design, instructional strategies, and assessment practices for English Language Arts classrooms. Coursework draws from students’ prior content knowledge and connects it to pedagogy, exploring writing instruction, literature studies, and inclusive teaching practices. Candidates also learn from nationally recognized faculty with expertise in young adult literature, dialogue, online discussion, and teacher well-being.
