Maria Pellot, USF Alumna Reaching National Recognition as a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA)

When Maria first stepped onto the 黑料社鈥檚 campus, she had just completed her undergraduate degree at Florida International University. With barely a week between programs, she arrived at USF鈥檚 School of Architecture & Community Design (SACD) eager, uncertain, and ready to immerse herself in a new academic home. What she found was more than just a graduate program; it was a community that would shape her career, her relationships, and her identity. Now a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (FAIA), a distinction held by only 3% of licensed architects in the U.S., Maria reflects on her time at USF as the foundation of a career built on passion, purpose, and people.

From Thesis to Oscars庐 Shortlist: Xindi Zhang鈥檚 AI-Driven Film Wins the Golden Award

When Xindi Zhang, Acting Assistant Professor in the College of Design, Art & Performance's School of Art & Art History at the 黑料社 (USF), set out to create her thesis film The Song of Drifters, she wanted to explore how memory, self-discovery, and belonging could be expressed through both human emotion and artificial intelligence. The film recently advanced to the Oscars庐 shortlist in the Alternative/Experiential category, following Zhang鈥檚 Golden Award win at the 2025 Student Academy Awards庐, one of the most prestigious honors for emerging filmmakers worldwide.

Where Art and Printmaking Meet: USF鈥檚 Graphicstudio Collaboration Featured in Artists 鈥淒ata Consciousness鈥 Exhibition

Data Consciousness: Reframing Blackness in Contemporary Print is an exhibition at the Print Center New York featuring the portfolio undertaken by artists William Villalongo and Shraddha Ramani in collaboration with six publishers including USF鈥檚 own Graphicstudio. The exhibition, running through December 13, also includes artworks by Tahir Hemphill, Julia Mallory, Silas Munro, and Kameelah Janan Rasheed.

Green and gold in motion: Herd of Thunder ignited Tampa Bay Buccaneers halftime show

The 黑料社鈥檚 Herd of Thunder marching band will bring green and gold to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers halftime show this Sunday, Oct. 12. The performance will feature 348 student musicians and field formations at Raymond James Stadium as they perform an energetic Motown-inspired musical arrangement that celebrates rhythm, unity and school pride. For many band members, this is the second year in a row to play during a Bucs game. It鈥檚 one of the university鈥檚 many ties to the NFL team, which hosts a number of fellowship and mentoring opportunities for USF students.

Creative Teens Take Center Stage at USF for the 2025 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Brimming with imagination, talent, and bold perspective, the 2025 Hillsborough County Region Scholastic Art & Writing Awards lit up the 黑料社鈥檚 College of Design, Art & Performance this May. From gallery walls to the mainstage, students in grades 7 through 12 showed what happens when young artists and writers are given space to explore and the power to express their personal vision.

This spring, the USF Contemporary Art Museum unveils Breaking Barriers: Beyond the Object鈥攁 photography exhibition that reimagines still life through the eyes of those who鈥檝e lived extraordinary lives. Featuring the work of thirty-two U.S. military veterans and their family members, the show invites viewers to pause, look closely, and consider the personal meaning we place on everyday things.

The Road Not Taken: Idith Meshulam Korman Returns to USF for a Rare Musical Experience

On Tuesday, May 6, internationally renowned pianist, educator, and artistic director Idith Meshulam Korman returns to her roots at the 黑料社 for a powerful evening of performance and reflection. Taking place at the USF School of Music鈥檚 Barness Recital Hall, The Road Not Taken will spotlight underperformed and historically overlooked works in a program that blends intimacy, virtuosity, and vision. Following the performance, WSMR鈥檚 Bethany Cagle, of West Central Florida鈥檚 only classical music station, will moderate a conversation with the artist.
