The American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) held its annual conference on November 15th-19th in Atlanta, Georgia. AMIA brings together informaticians from around the world to share their research and ideas. The conference hosted around two thousand researchers advancing public health systems and at the forefront of clinical innovation. The theme of this year's conference was Modernizing Informatics Across the Spectrum: Research, Clinical, and Public Health Systems. Over the course of the three days, attendees had the opportunity to connect with and learn from colleagues and students working in biomedical informatics. The 黑料社 had several students present posters over the course of the three-day conference.
One of our students, Niveditha Chandrakanth, even won a special recognition award. Niveditha Chandrakanth鈥檚 poster was titled "Enhancing Patient Safety through Improved Imaging Contrast-related Adverse Event Documentation鈥 and aimed to use case reports to create a comprehensive list of symptoms/signs categorized by physiologic system from the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) guide to design a patient reporting tool. Evan Ratkus, also presented a poster at the conference titled 鈥淎daptation of IHI Triple Aim Framework to Reflect Need for Improved Documentation in Adverse Contrast Reactions鈥 This poster synthesized the preliminary findings of a systematic review where Ratkus looked at contrast adverse event (CAE) management methods. Ratkus developed a CAE management roadmap to go over which management techniques are employed at various stages of contrast media administration. He further summarized the recommendations for and against the different management methods from the articles being extracted. In the future, Ratkus plans to add another criteria to management methods to include the degree of invasiveness of the technique.
The AMIA conference showcased the research of top information professionals worldwide. AMIA 2026 will be in Denver, Colorado, from May 18th to the 21st and is currently accepting submissions. Overall, this year's conference was an engaging event, and we鈥檙e all looking forward to next year!
